I see that it has been quite a while since I posted here. This is mainly because for the past year or so, and most especially the last six months, I have been immersed up to my eyelobes [sic] in the International Relations literature working on a thematic paper on the future of the rules-based international order. I’ll delay any further discussion about this until the paper is published and then reflect on what that was like. But you can probably guess from the previous blog entry who this was for…
For now, I report on two recent activities that occurred during this year of trying to stay out of Normal Head (read the linked blurb to see what I mean. If you only see one paragraph of the story, trying turning off Javascript and reload; you might see more…).
I recorded a podcast episode with Tracy Poizner who hosts the Limitless podcast. She had spoken with Nikolas Badminton about futures a few months ago, and during the course of that he had mentioned the Futures Cone. Tracy then did an episode about that, and then contacted me to ask if I would talk about both it and futures more generally on her podcast. Thus, the episode linked here is the result.

During this time I was also approached by Prof Michael Rosemann of the Centre for Futures Enterprise at Queensland University of Technology to give the opening seminar in a series of futures talks that will run for the rest of the year — the CFE Futures Unlocked Seminar Series. CFE/QUT hosted me in Brisbane for a couple of very balmy days, and I had some lovely conversations with several of the Centre staff, rather a lot of which were about surveillance capitalism and what to do about it, as I recall (but that’s another story). At any rate, the seminar was recorded and is now available to watch via the link in the reference below.

I have another podcast or two coming up soon, not to mention the aforesaid thematic paper, so it is (fairly) unlikely to be another year until the next post appears here (sorry about that; my bad). Fate permitting and Abyss Gaze notwithstanding, of course …
